What You Should Check in Your Private Health Insurance Medicine Coverage
One of the cheapest yet most important coverages in private health insurance is the coverage for life-saving and life-prolonging Medicine that isn't in the healthcare basket, which has been updated quite a bit over the years.
From chemical drugs until 2007, with low coverage for up to 600K NIS only, to off-label experimental drugs and personalized drugs based on personal DNA after genomic testing (added after 02.2016), covering millions of shekels.
Today's medical technology can do amazing things, like zoning in on cancer cells and destroying only them, but this medicine is getting more and more expensive, as it is becoming more refined and advanced.
Insurance coverage from before 02.2016 doesn't update every two years like the newer policies. The newer policies are also updated once in a while, and it is recommended to check the added appendices and assess if they're worthwhile.
It is recommended to ensure (preferably with the help of an insurance agent) that your existing private health insurance policy includes the latest coverage for drugs that aren't included in the healthcare basket, as well as sufficient coverage for genomic testing which costs around 50K NIS.
